8th Amendment: Stealing Candy Does't Equal a Life Sentence

What They Say:
SECTION 1

Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.

SECTION 2
Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

What We Say: The time has to match the crime

There is no use for this if the crime doesn't fit. This is a very useful thing because doing big time for a small crime is unjust. I researched some methods of usual punishments and they range from silly to sickening. But who decides what is cruel or unusual???
