What They Say:

Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.

Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.
What We Say: The time has to match the crime

| There is no use for this if the crime doesn't fit. This is a very useful thing because doing big time for a small crime is unjust. I researched some methods of usual punishments and they range from silly to sickening. But who decides what is cruel or unusual??? |
